I just started watching this series. I had a carbed one for years and this brings back some great memories. The Bird really is a Superb Bike in many respects IMHO.

I had a carbed Blackbird for about 9 years. It was in a sort of wine colour ; 'Candy Muthos Magenta' I think. It was a great bike with easy speed, good handling and it was very reliable. Unsurprisingly it did drink a bit of fuel and needed a number of replacements for chains, sprockets, pads and tyres. For a bike like a Blackbird though, that was to be expected. What a bike that was. I think, particularly for the money paid, that is a well built and reliable bike . Its a proper bike. Well done. As, you said, maybe I am nitpicking here though, the amount of chrome parts is the main downside. A cracking bike though.

Yep. Nice bike at good price. I think one of the criticisms of this year was a small fuel tank? Made it larger shortly afterwards. I used to have a 2016 model in yellow - my favourite colour. Not popular at the time but I reckon they are going to be very popular soon.Prefer the original twin exhausts for that "classic" look myself. Good buy! 👍

I rode the Speed 1200RS back to back with the previous gen Speed 1050 RS. I preferred the 1050. So I bought one like you unseen but from Laguna motorcycles in Kent. That's when the nightmare began. The battery was flat as a pancake on delivery and the gearbox was fkd as 3rd and 4th gears failed after about 120 miles with only 1,300 miles on the clock. Problems started with false neutrals and jumping out and back into gear even on the most gentle of roll ons from 2-7k revs. In the end after being pissed around by dealers and Triumph for ages almost 8 months, I found a competent Triumph dealer in W. Yorks and they stripped and rebuilt the whole gear box. They had repaired quite a few with the same gearbox problem. All the other dealers including Laguna didn't want to know. Laguna were AWFUL. It cost well over £2k to repair. It runs ok now and is great to ride but tbh I have lost faith in the Triumph brand and really should move it on. But yes the 1200RS felt very light and turned and dropped into bends so easily, it felt more like it's smaller 765 Street Triple RS sibling. But I just couldn't get on with the 1200 engine. Yes it has 180 bhp, the bike was fast, but it needed to be revved more (8-9k revs) compared to the 1050RS to get it to go by which time you were riding at insane speeds on public roads. Plus I felt the suspension was firmer on the 1200RS, jarring, but this might just have been suspension settings. Great on track but UK roads? No. Although the Ohlins on the 1050RS felt more compliant, I had a softer Ohlins rear spring fitted to my 1050RS which has made a huge improvement not only to comfort, but having it set up by a good local suspension place, it now rides turns very easily like a 765 Street Triple RS but it still feels totally planted on the road which I felt the Street Triple RS didn't when I rode a 2019 bike. Anyway yes yours is a lovely looking bike. Shall look forward to your ride video of it. I much prefer the dash of the 1050RS as well. I didn't like the 1200 dash at all. Also the 1050RS is better for carrying luggage and pillion as it has a pillion seat and optional Triumph grab rail. I think the rear subframe is a touch longer. I like the twin high level exhausts as well which is an iconic look of the Speed Triples. Re the red trellis subframe, yeah possibly, but best to leave yours as is, ie std. Not worth having it repainted. And yes you are dead right the 1200RR is a fugly bike. Shame Triumph couldn't have just given the 1200RS electronic suspension like KTM did with their SDR 1290 Evo. I rode the SDR 1290 gen 3 before the EVO came out to compare with the Speed Triple RS and BMW S1000R and it was the best of the bunch imho but I just couldn't get over KTM's reputation for reliability. As it happened for me my Speed Triple was to prove a nightmare. Wish I had bought the SDR 1290 on refection. Oh well. ATB.

Title change needed, not 1300 That is a brilliant price for a wonderful bike (you have the price in the title even though you said you wouldn't say 😃) . It went six speed in 2014 but the 5-speed owners don't have an issue. Yes, dump the screen.😃. 1140cc, utterly reliable, smooth. Honda's Bonneville and as such not especially practical but a wonder nonetheless.😃 Have the 2017.

Good review. Like yourself I'm in the market for a sports tourer. I've always wanted a Triumph, but it seems electrics are often mentioned as a problem & they get very hot, which wouldn't be too helpful in Western Australia where I live.

Not top of the range, tyres must be all the same, and tread the same, no mixing of tyres, belts are best done at 7yrs not the 10yrs Landrover says, insurance is problem with these cars now, due to insurance companies have put them all in one pool, due to Range rovers being stolen easy.

This is a very handsome bike. I have the 05 GS. In my opinion lower crash bars are a must have. Additionally have the Servo brake system serviced at least every two years or more frequently. Happy riding from central Oregon USA.

I wonder how long it holds charge when not in use. You tend to go years between flat batteries.

I've just purchased a 2016 Blue HDI 1.6ltr diesel with only 43K miles on the clock for £4.5K. It's almost in immaculate condition though the previous owner wore high heels which tore through the car mat and even ripped two holes in the floor of the car! Either the heels were sharp or the mat was cheap! Anyway, well pleased with my purchase. Similar priced diesel models from the same year were selling for more with much higher mileage. I drive a 2008 quashqai diesel going on 4 years and never heard air whistle in while on the motorway summer or winter, also the 1.5 diesel dies have plenty power I assume yours is petrol. First thing I’d do with yours is rip off that silly steering wheel cover 😂😂😂

Those are not the injtors, that is the gas vapor return valve. Thats why these are euro 4 cars. That is only activated when on idle

Tail tidy looks fab, am with you on the indicators, TEC should have them fit straight on without drilling but they do look great!

Goes like a train only negative feedback was the exhaust but thats a easy fix apparently its not loud enough but its down to personal taste

Well for somebody who's riden sports bikes all my life i finally had enough of sore wrists neck and back and had my heart set on one of these, however you've slightly put me off now with the vibration you talk about but I'm going to get one anyway, cant be any more uncomfortable than a zx7r, good review👍🏻

16:52 Good review. I own a 2006 red and white CB1300...15000km on it when i bought it. Rode it home 1500km only stopping for fuel. Was amazed how small it felt. No vibration...love it to bits, but yes it needs a 6th gear. Cheers
